Just a quick note because I want to remember tonight. As it is one of Geraldine's last nights here (sniff sniff) we took her out to an Indian restaurant down the block. As Wessy and Geraldine are best buds, of course he had to come. We have, of course, taken Wessy to restaurants before. However, I don't recall that we've ever had him sit in his own (high)chair and actually eat with us. When he was really little, I would hold him in the Ergo and eat over him, trying (often unsuccessfully) not to spill anything on his downy little head. As he got bigger, we brought him in his carseat or sometimes the stroller. Of late, we had been putting him in the highchair, but not really having him eat with us, instead giving him toys to keep him busy while we intermittently fed him tastes of our food.
Tonight he sat in his highchair and ate by himself. While we waited for the food, he was able to entertain himself with spoons, napkins and periodic quick attempts to pull the tablecloth off the table when he thought he had an opening. When the food came, we put a little dish of rice and some naan and aloo kobi in front of him. He shoveled it gratefully into his little gullet with a small measure of success. Granted, it looked like a rice bomb had gone off when we left the restaurant, but he fed himself. There was no shouting, no crying, no spilled drinks and no one got hurt. It was delightful. It makes my heart cry happy/sad tears to see him acting so humanoid.
